Virginia Active Angel Network, VAAN, is a professionally managed and member-led group of accredited investors that meet monthly in a dinner model in Charlottesville, VA. Members from outside of Charlottesville, in Blacksburg, Roanoke, Richmond, NY and Georgia participate either by driving to the Charlottesville dinner or through our exclusive on-line access. In this model, VAAN allows the presenters to still reach a larger investing membership while reducing the number of members that must travel to local dinners (as was the model the first four years of VAAN). This also reduces the time and expense for entrepreneurs to present to multiple dinners while still providing presenters an "in-person" investor experience by maintaining the Charlottesville, VA dinner model.
VAAN considers opportunities to provide funding and mentor capital to early and seed stage ventures primarily in the central and southern Virginia region, and the greater region, including Maryland, Washington DC, North Carolina, Kentucky and West Virginia. VAAN also syndicates opportunities with other Angel Capital Association angel groups.

Charlottesville, VA April 4, 2011 | VAAN announces the closing of an investment in Pathsensors, Inc., of Baltimore, MD. Recently spun-off from Rockville based Innovative Biosensors Inc. (IBI), Pathsensors is a leading edge biotech company focused on the food testing and biosecurity market. The company recently was awarded a $5 million contract from the Department of Defense and has relocated from Rockville, MD to Baltimore, MD. Ted Olsen leaves IBI to continue the explosive growth of this company. Multiple angels and angel groups were instrumental in raising the $2M round.
